10 Former Couples Who Owned The ‘90s

The ‘90s were a great time. The music was grungy and so was the fashion and there were iconic couples everywhere. Very few have made it, but that doesn’t matter cause the photos of these couples will be around forever. Here are 10 former couples who totally owned the ‘90s:

10. Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Affleck

After breaking up with Brad Pitt, Gwyneth Paltrow moved on to Ben Affleck. Even though he was a sorry substitute for Brad, Ben and Gwyneth did look pretty good together. According to her, the relationship didn’t work out because of Ben’s complications. “He’s super intelligent and really, really talented and he’s funny,” she said. “But he wasn’t in a good place in his life to have a girlfriend.” He probably still isn’t!

9. Hugh Grant and Elizabeth Hurley

When Elizabeth Hurley first started dating Hugh Grant, he was the star and she was just starting to make a name for herself. These two looked great together and it really seemed like they were in it for the long haul. Even after Hugh was caught with a hooker in broad daylight, these two still managed to make it work. They broke up in 2000, but they’re still great friends. In fact, he’s one of her son Damien’s godfathers.

8. Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman

Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman met on the set of the Gattaca and were married a year later. They seemed like the perfect couple. They went on to have two children together but, ultimately, they couldn’t make it work and separated in 2003 and then divorced in 2005. Rumor has it that he cheated on her with a 22-year-old model, Jen Perzow.

7. Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford

Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford may be strangers now, but during the ‘90s, they were one of the hottest couples out there. She was just becoming a well known model at the time, but he had already established himself as one of Hollywood’s hottest actors. She claims that the age difference (he was 42 and she was only 25 when they married) is what doomed the relationship. At least we have the memories, right?

6. Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love

Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love were like the royal couple of grunge. Together they looked great, but their relationship was totally toxic. Who knows what would have happened to their relationship if Kurt didn’t commit suicide, but something tells us that they probably would have imploded.

5. David and Victoria Beckham

David and Victoria Beckham are one of the only ‘90s couples who were able to make it work long-term. They first hooked up back in 1997, were married in 1999 and now have four children together, Brooklyn, Cruz, Romeo and Harper. We still like to remember the good old days when she went by Victoria Adams and belonged to the Spice, and he was just a rising star on the English football scene.

3. Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp

With their dark hair and brooding eyes, Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp really seemed like a match made in heaven. They were engaged for three years, from 1990 until 1993, and he even had ‘Winona Forever’ tattooed on his upper right arm. Lucky for him, there was a quick fix for his Winona tattoo when they inevitably broke up – he had it changed to Wino Forever.

2. Johnny Depp and Kate Moss

Even though we all loved Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder together, many of us were equally fascinated about his relationship with Kate Moss. They were both so young, beautiful and effortlessly cool. The relationship wasn’t all good though. After one of their fights, Johnny trashed a New York City hotel room. Even though these two looked so good together, it’s probably a good thing it didn’t last cause they were combustible.

1. Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt

Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt were the golden couple of the ‘90s. They met on the set of the thriller Se7en and once they made their debut as a couple the media couldn’t get enough of them. Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be. Six months after she accepted his proposal, Brad’s publicist announced that they broke up. Many of us never got over it. Sigh.
