10 Things You Didn’t Know About Katie Holmes

When many people think of Katie Holmes, they automatically think of her over-the-top relationship and marriage to Tom Cruise, which isn’t exactly fair. There’s a lot more to Katie than her relationship with Tom – most of us just haven’t take the time to really think about it. We’re going to that for you. Here are 10 fascinating things you didn’t know about the former Dawson’s Creek star:

10. 40 Days

Katie was offered the lead role in 40 Days and 40 Nights, but had to turn it down because of scheduling conflicts.


9. A Runner

She comes from a family of athletes. Her dad played basketball at Marquette University and she likes to run. It helps clear her head.


8. Friends

She was scheduled to appear in three episodes of the sitcom Friends, but had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts.

She is the youngest of five siblings. She has three sisters and one brother.

6. Model

Katie started modeling when she was 10 years old, but was told as a teen that she would never be tall enough.

5. Teen Crush

Growing up, she had a crush on Tom Cruise. She reportedly had a poster of him on her wall and dreamed of marrying him. In 2006 that dream came true.

4. Controversy

Katie encountered controversy when she went topless in The Gift. The Toledo Blade’s Russ Lemmon’s called the scene “gratuitous” and argued that the four years she spent cultivating a wholesome image was potentially ruined because of it.


3. Big Break

While in high school, she was asked to audition for Dawson’s Creek in L.A., but it conflicted with her performing in her school musical Damn Yankees, so she declined the offer. Lucky for her, producers let her audition via videotape. She read for the part of Joey and her mother read Dawson’s lines. She made quite the impression and won the part.

2. Smart Cookie

She scored 1310 out of 1600 on her SATs and was accepted at Columbia University. She enrolled there for a summer session, but put further education on the back burner so that she could pursue acting.

1. First Love

Her first love was Joshua Jackson. The two dated while filming the first season of Dawson’s Creek. “It was something so incredible and indescribable that I will treasure it always,” she told Rolling Stone. The two have remained friends. When she left Tom Cruise, Joshua was one of the people she called.
