Things You Might Not Know About Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence is considered one of the most promising young actresses in Hollywood today and there’s good reason why! She’s been nominated for countless awards, including four Oscars, one of which she won for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook. Also, she’s not just a good actress. In fact, she’s also an outspoken advocate for feminism and gender equality. Since she’s still such a big deal, we have collected some trivia about her – here are 10 things you should know about Jennifer Lawrence!

10. Big Award Nominations for a Young Actress

For her role in Winter’s Bone, Jennifer Lawrence received nominations for the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Satellite Award, Independent Spirit Award and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress. She was only 20 at the time and was the third youngest actress ever to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress.

 9. Upbringing

Jennifer Lawrence was born on August 15, 1990 in the suburbs of Louisville, Kentucky, to Gary, a construction worker, and Karen, a children’s children’s camp manager. She has two older brothers, Ben and Blaine, and is of mostly English and German descent with small amounts of Irish and Scottish ancestry. According to her, when she was growing up, she suffered from hyperactivity and social anxiety and didn’t feel like she fit in amongst her peers; however, this seems to have changed in high school. She played softball, field hockey and basketball and was also involved in cheerleading.

8. Discovered

The Catching Fire star was discovered at the age of 14 by a talent scout during a family vacation to New York City. “My mom gave him her number because she didn’t know that was potentially dangerous and creepy, and then he called and said modeling agencies wanted to meet with me,” The Hunger Games actress said. “And I made up my mind in the cab ride, I was like, ‘well, I’m only going to sign with a modeling agency if they’ll let me act.’ Which came out of nowhere… I was already negotiating.” She and her mother briefly moved to New York City so that she could read for roles. She then signed with CESD Talent Agency and then began to audition for roles in Los Angeles.

7. Auditioning for Winter’s Bone

When the American Hustle actress auditioned for the role of Ree Dolly in Winter’s Bone, producers were initially wary of Jennifer’s good looks and rejected her for that role. According to Lawrence, she persisted and it paid off. “Like a psychopath, I followed them to New York on the red-eye and showed up the next day at the casting there,” she said. “Not brushing my hair or washing my face did the trick.”

6. Romance

Jen and her ex boyfriend Nicholas Hoult met on the set of X-Men: First Class – she was playing the young Mystique and Nicholas played the young Beast. They dated off and on for a few years, but ultimately broke up in 2014. She then went on to date Chris Martin off and on for a year, breaking up during the summer of 2015. She was reportedly dumped him because she was tired of him being so noncommittal.

5. Natural Blonde

The Academy Award-winning actress is actually a natural blonde. She dyed her hair brown for her role in The Hunger Games, but she had to cut it all off after filming Catching Fire because it was fried from all the dying. For the rest of the films, she opted to wear a wig instead of dying her hair again.

4. Reality TV Addict

When Jennifer isn’t working, she loves to hang out with friends and watch reality TV shows like the Real Housewives series. While she used to prefer The Real Housewives of New Jersey, she is now more into The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but she’s also a fan of Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Vanderpump Rules. She actually gets a little starstruck when she runs into the various castmembers! She once saw Kim Kardashian at a New York City hotel and reportedly yelled across the lobby at her. “We said, ‘Hi’ and walked into the elevator and as the doors were closing, she screamed across the lobby, ‘I love your show!'” Kim said. “We were laughing so hard.” Jennifer’s so down with the Kardashians that Kris Jenner presented the actress’ cake to her at her birthday party in 2015.

3. Klutzy 

When Lawrence won the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, she tripped and fell up the stairs when she was collecting her award. She hinted that it was worth it because Hugh Jackman helped her back up. The following year, she also tripped at the Oscars, this time on the red carpet after she exited her limo.

2. Pot Smoker

After winning the Oscar for Best Actress, the Golden Globe-winning actress was photographed in Hawaii smoking pot outside her hotel room. In 2015, during an episode of Watch What Happens Live, she admitted that she took a hit from her brother’s bong before going to the Oscars one year. Perhaps it was one of the year’s that she fell!

1. A Fan of Russian Literature

One of Jennifer’s favorite books is Anna Karenina. Donald Sutherland gave her a copy on the last day of filming for The Hunger Games. Although Lawrence didn’t expect to like it, she ended up loving it! “I thought I wouldn’t want to finish an 800-page book, but then I started slowing down and reading the same chapters over and over. You fall in love with the characters; you grow up with them.”
