Some celebrity friendships go way back, and while their paths may have gone in different directions now, there was a time some surprising celebrity duos were very close. Some celebrities worked together before fame while others went to school together, and some even lived together while finding their way in the industry. Here are 11 surprising celebrities that many fans did not know lived together:

11. Connie Britton and Lauren Graham

Before they were portraying some of the coolest moms ever on TV, Connie Britton and Lauren Graham were living together. In an interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Graham revealed she and Britton not only lived together but maybe did so illegally. “We lived in an empty house that we weren’t supposed to be living,” she admitted. “We had no furniture and all we ate were Rice Krispies Treats. After finding their way in the industry and going on to Gilmore Girls and Friday Night Lights fame, the two stunning actresses remain friends and even joke about their time as roommates. “She’s still a friend, but now we both have furniture!” Graham said.

10. John Cusack and Jeremy Piven

John Cusack and Jeremy Piven go way back and began their acting careers together years ago. The two actors grew up in the same small-town of Evanston, Illinois, and John and Joan Cusack attended acting workshops given by Piven’s parents, Joyce and Byrne. After some time the pair ended up moving in together as they continued working on their acting. In the mid-2000s after years of friendship, it seems the two parted ways after Cusack made comments that Piven did not handle his Entourage success well.

9. Mel Gibson and Geoffrey Rush

Now, Mel Gibson and Geoffrey Rush are two very well known actors, but it hasn’t always been that way. Before anyone knew their names, the two Australian actors were living together for four months while studying at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney. Not only were they living together, however, they were both trying to date the same woman. “Oh, I’d forgotten about that. That was probably my biggest achievement,” Rush said in an interview after revealing that the woman eventually chose him.

8. Judd Apatow and Adam Sandler

Before they were household names when it came to comedic films, Judd Apatow and Adam Sandler were living together trying to find their way. A couple of decades ago the popular director and famous actor were living in a $900 per month apartment in the Valley. “Back then, life was just doing stand-up and writing jokes. You would sleep until noon every day and kind of stumble out. You would have to be at work at 8:30 at night. Work was sometimes 15 minutes,” Apatow said of their lifestyle. “Adam always had a rental car. He never bought a car for literally 12 years,” Apatow added while Sandler said they weren’t necessarily broke. “It wasn’t broke. We were doing as comedians good enough to get by. We could eat at Red Lobster once every month. That was a big night out.”

6. Conan O’Brien and Jeff Garlin

We can assume the laughs never stopped when beloved late night host Conan O’Brien and hilarious Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Goldbergs actor Jeff Garlin lived together. Garlin revealed in an interview the pair lived together in Chicago, explaining, “There was a writers’ strike at Saturday Night Live at the time, and he moved in for a bit.” He added, “He was a great roommate. I was the bad roommate. My bedroom had air conditioning and I rarely invited anyone in there. He was not happy about it, because his room was really hot. And I used to wake him up all the time to make him do impressions to make me laugh. I love the guy.” Conan agreed with that assessment when he recalled living with Garlin. “I’d be fast asleep, it would be 3 in the morning, he would kick my door open, kick my door open and say ‘It’s pudding pop time,’ and then he would make me do impressions and skits for him for his amusement, and for some reason, I did. He has that power. I didn’t say no. I just was like, this guy is yelling at me to perform, I better do it.”

Unlike the other celebrity roommates on this list, these two are current co-stars and friends still! We all immediately felt connected to one another. I live with Madelaine, who plays Cheryl. You can’t fake the closeness that we have,” Reinhart stated.
