According to the Queen, it’s important for a Royal woman to stand out when she enters a public space, and Kate Middleton did exactly that when she appeared at a Wimbledon match in July. Kate is a regular attendee of these matches and we love seeing what breezy sundress or summery look she has up her sleeve next. For the 2018 year, this sleek yellow look was a particular favorite. It was attention-grabbing, yet still featured a sophisticated and tailored shape.

16. Worst — May 2018

One of Kate’s most controversial looks this year was actually the outfit she wore to her sister-in-law to be Meghan Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry! Many were stunned that Kate would opt for a white dress when its common knowledge that one should never wear white as a guest to a wedding. While rumors swirled about the controversial fashion decision, some argued that the look was actually a soft yellow and that many of the cameras washed it out to look white.

15. Best — November 2018

Near the end of the year in November Kate stepped out in a festive holiday-inspired suit in a muted shade of red. We love the combination of the polished blazer with the fun flared skirt. This skirt was daringly short for a woman of Royal status, yet Kate strategically paired it with opaque black tights to stay modest and conservative.

14. Worst — January 2018

Earlier in 2018, Kate Middleton stepped out in a bright houndstooth that many made instant comparisons to a signature look worn on repeat by the late Princess Diana. While we actually are huge fans of this coat in isolation, her choice of accessories was a huge miss. The maroon Chanel bag really clashed with the bright shade of orange and we would have much preferred if she had opted for neutral accessories to let the coat shine.

13. Best — November 2018

The Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in November 2018 wearing a long-time favorite teal pleated dress. This look is a repeat that she’s worn on multiple other occasions and we can see why! The look fits her like a glove and is the perfect shade of blue to complement her dark hair and blue eyes.

12. Worst — February 2018

A pregnant Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in February for a lavish dinner at the royal palace in Oslo. For the formal event, she opted for a blush pink Alexander McQueen number that featured silver metallic beading on the neckline and a sheer cape detail. While this look is certainly quite glamorous, it wasn’t one of our favorites on the Duchess. The combination of the high-neckline and excess of fabric from the cape made the look come across a little stifling and matronly.

11. Best — October 2018

Kate Middleton had all eyes on her when she stepped out in a cobalt blue number this past October. The look was undeniably one of the most striking she’s worn all year, largely because of how well it fit her! Perfect tailoring is key to a show-stopping look. We also love the slight bell sleeves and subtle ruffled shoulder details.

10. Worst — February 2018

Attending a red carpet event is quite rare for a Royal figure, but the one we can usually expect to see the Duchess of Cambridge at is the annual BAFTA Awards. Her gown for this event is often one of her most anticipated looks of the year, but many were quite disappointed with her dress for 2018. Fashion was key this year for many red carpet events where women wore a sea of black gowns in support of the #MeToo movement. When Kate stepped out in a deep green color, many were quite disappointed in her seeming ignorance towards the female empowerment movement.

9. Best — April 2018

One of Kate’s loveliest looks of the year was the stunning red dress she wore at Lindo Wing to present Prince Louis to the world. The eye-catching shift dress was the perfect post-baby look that complemented her rosy glow and was inspired by a look worn by Princess Diana to present Prince Harry to the world.

8. Worst — October 2018

Following her maternity leave, Kate Middleton stepped out in October heading full force back into her public engagements and appearances. Her look, however, was disappointing for many. We love to see Kate in a casual look, but this outfit didn’t seem well thought out. Our main issue with this outfit is the fact that she wore a green jacket on top of green pants that were different shades and completely clashed.

7. Best– July 2018

This lavender dress worn by Kate Middleton in July 2017 is so good that we’re not surprised that this isn’t her first time wearing it! The Duchess wore the lovely purple number last year and many dubbed it one of her best looks ever. In 2018, it’s just as stunning and we’re happy to see that Kate realizes that too with her decision to pull it out again!

6. Worst — October 2018

Another one of Kate’s less impressive looks from this year had to be this all-black look she paired with a checked blazer and booties. The simple yet polished look would have been fine if it wasn’t for one minor detail — her stomach was showing! We’re pretty convinced this wardrobe faux-pas wouldn’t fly with the Queen. We also wish that since the denim look is so casual that she had opted for a more refined looking stiletto than the suede booties.

5. Best — November 2018

Kate looked absolutely dazzling when she stepped out in this bright teal number for the Tusk Conservation Awards in London. The Jenny Packham number featured a crystal sash that cinched in her waist and fluttering lace cap sleeves that added a dainty, ultra-feminine feel to the number. It had just enough detail to be a standout look for the year but was still classy and elegant.

4. Worst — January 2018

One of Kate’s most criticized looks of the year was this satin mustard-colored dress she wore in January. The look had quite a bit going on from the statement-making color scheme, high-neckline, long sleeves, satin texture and ruffle detailing. With the combination of the heavy material and print, we simply think this look seemed to distract from Kate’s natural beauty rather than complement it.

One of the Duchess of Cambridge’s trendiest looks of the year was this checked Erdem number she wore for a night out at the V & A museum. The look strayed from her typically minimalistic, solid-colored wardrobe but in a good way! The print of this piece was sophisticated and classy, yet the off-the-shoulder neckline made it super fashion-forward.

2. Worst — October 23

Many dubbed this powder blue Alexander McQueen worn by the Duchess of Cambridge in October one of her worst looks of all time! While we believe the criticism is definitely quite harsh, we do see where they’re coming from. The crinkled texture of the dress looked like something straight out of an ’80s playbook and we would have much preferred to see Kate in something more modern like satin or velvet.

Kate is known for her crowd-pleasing wedding guest looks, and she struck again this year when she attended Princess Eugenie’s wedding wearing this regal magenta number that was both glamorous and appropriate. It was detailed in all the right places and featured a dramatic draped detail along the hip, flattering long sleeves and ruching along the neckline.
