While many former Sex and the City stars have opted to stay out of the brutal feud between Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall, Jason Lewis certainly had some things to say and had no problem picking sides.
The handsome star, best known for his role as Smith in the popular series and the films, spoke with KTLA in Los Angeles on Wednesday, February 21 when he was asked about the very public feud between his former co-stars and if he sided with his longtime on-screen love, Cattrall, or Sarah Jessica Parker.
“If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all,” Lewis said, before making it quite clear which team he was on. “Listen, I have to say that Sarah was always just so lovely and such a consummate professional and I think that people should remember their graciousness and the things that have been given to them and I’m gonna stop there because I’ve got nothing good to say.”
It seems Lewis said a lot more with what he didn’t say, and when Sam Rubin asked him if his answer meant he was “Team Sarah,” Lewis replied, “I might just have to say yeah. What a gracious lady. She was always so good to me.”
“Were other people not as good to you?” Rubin then asked. “Sarah was amazing,” Lewis — very tellingly — responded.
Reports of bad blood between Parker and Cattrall have been common since the series was filming, but things really heated up last year after Parker finally confirmed that a third movie would not be happening while reports claimed it was all because of Cattrall’s “outrageous demands.”
Cattrall admitted she didn’t want to make another Sex and the City movie, but said the reports about her demands were untrue and she was not the reason the movie was shut down. “Now at this very moment it’s quite extraordinary to get any kind of negative press about something that I’ve been saying for almost a year of ‘no’ that I’m demanding or a diva,” Cattrall said. “And this is really where I take to task the people from ‘Sex and the City,’ and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker, in that I think she could have been nicer.”
Most recently, Cattrall publicly called out Parker after Parker offered her condolences when Cattrall’s brother went missing and then was found dead. Cattrall took to her Instagram to share,
“My mom asked me today, ‘When will that Sarah Jessica Parker, that hypocrite, leave you alone?’ Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now,” Cattrall captioned her Instagram post. “Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already). You are not my family. You are not my friend,” Cattrall continued. “So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”
