Sex and the City actress Kristin Davis took to Instagram on Friday to express her sadness and frustration that the plans to make Sex and the City 3 have been cancelled.
Davis played Charlotte York Goldenblatt on the hit HBO television series for six seasons and returned to her role for the two films that followed. “I love to look back at the pics from our LONG history of Sex and the City,” the 52-year-old wrote. “I am incredibly lucky to have gotten to play Charlotte through all of her ups and downs (epitomized in one of my favorite episodes here).”
Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Carrie on Sex and the City, shared news of the cancellation on Thursday and Davis confirmed her costar’s comment. “It is true that we are not going to be able to make a 3rd film. I wish that we could have made the final chapter, on our own terms, to complete the stories of our characters,” she explained.
She also added that the show’s creator, Michael Patrick King, had already written a script for the sequel film. “It is deeply frustrating not to able to share that chapter (beautifully written by MPK) with all of you. So we will just have our memories, but please know that all of the love and support for us through the years is felt by us and we are so grateful for all of you! SATC forever in our hearts.”
To add to the drama, Willie Garson, who played Stanford Blatch on the series, retweeted an article claiming that Kim Cattrall’s “outrageous demands” are what caused the film to be cancelled just weeks before production. Cattrall took to social media to defend herself and wrote, “Woke 2 a @MailOnline [s–t] storm! The only ‘DEMAND’ I ever made was that I didn’t want to do a 3rd film….& that was back in 2016.”
