The Current Season Of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ To End Early With Episode 21 Serving As The Finale

Grey’s Anatomy‘s current season, season 16, will officially be one of the shortest in the long-running series.

ABC announced that the long-running medical drama series will move its finale date – originally set to air on May 16 – to Thursday, April 9, with episode 21 of the season to serve as the season’s finale. In addition to it’s changed finale air time, the season 16 finale episode, which was the last one the production crew was able to complete before stopping due to ongoing public health and safety concerns, is titled “Put on a Happy Face.”

Also, ABC announced that they are not planning to resume production on the Grey’s Anatomy season once they’re cleared to go back to work, which means that the season will come to a true end on April 9th. Furthermore, despite season 16 coming to an early end, it has been announced that Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed for season 17.

Likewise, ABC announced that this sudden programming shift will not affect shows such as Station 19 or How to Get Away With Murder, both of which will stick to their original May 14 finale dates.

Those behind the series were among the teams from hospital set dramas who donated on-set personal protective equipment to healthcare workers fighting the ongoing public health crisis.

Grey’s Anatomy airs every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
