Travis Scott has been sued by an injured fan over the incident at his Astroworld tour on Saturday that led to eight fatalities.
In the records obtained by PEOPLE, the injured fan, Manuel Souza, accuses Scott of “express encouragement of violence.” This marks just one of what is expected to be several lawsuits over the incident that took place at his Astroworld Festival in Houston.
“Plaintiff’s injuries were the inevitable and predictable result of Defendants’ conscious disregard of the extreme risks of harm to concertgoers that had been escalating since hours earlier,” the petition reads.
Souza filed a petition on Saturday in Harris County District Court against Scott claiming that the event was “predictable and preventable.” He’s seeking at least $1,000,000 in damages and a temporary restraining order to prevent any destruction of evidence. Aside from Scott himself, the lawsuit also names Live Nation, organizer ScoreMore, and Scott’s Cactus Jack Records, among others.
Souza claims he “suffered serious bodily injuries when the uncontrolled crowd at the concert knocked him to the ground and trampled him.”
“Tragically, due to Defendants’ motivation for profit at the expense of concertgoers’ health and safety, and due to their encouragement of violence, at least 8 people lost their lives and scores of others were injured at what was supposed to be a night of fun,” the lawsuit reads.
Travis Scott addressed the incident in a statement released to Twitter on Saturday morning. “I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night. My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival,” he wrote on Twitter.
Scott added later that evening on his Instagram Story that he’s “working right now to identify the families to assist them through this tough time,” adding that his “fans really mean the world to me, and I always want to leave them with a positive experience.”
