10. A Long Line of Actors
Kate Winslet was born in Reading, England on October 4, 1975 to her parents Sally Anne and Roger John Winslet who were both stage actors. She grew up with two sisters, Beth and Anna, as well as one brother named Joss. It seems she gets her immense talent from a long line of acting chops! Her uncle was the late stage actor, Robert Bridges, and her grandparents both ran a local theater. “It’s in my family to act. I always knew that this was what I wanted to do,” she said during an interview with the New York Times in 1995. Winslet studied drama at the Redroofs Theatre School and a co-educational independent school in Maidenhead, Berkshire. She entered the acting world at a young age. She started out doing commercials, stage productions, then a few BBC television series, and by the time she was 17, she had landed her first movie role.
