Dancing With The Stars 2020: Celebrity Cast For Season 29 (With Pics)

For awhile there were questions whether Dancing With the Stars could return for season 29, but it is and with big changes! Ahead of a cast announcement it was revealed that ABC had parted ways with hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews and had hired Tyra Banks in their place. It was then revealed that season 29 would premiere on September 14 and along with a new host was promising one of the biggest and best casts yet. On September 2, Good Morning America exclusively revealed the celebrity cast and it is certainly big! It was already revealed that the pros this year include: Peta Murgatroyd, Val Chmerkovskiy, Jenna Johnson, Sharna Burgess, Artem Chigvintsev, Keo Motesepe, Daniella Karagach, Britt Stewart, Brandon Armstrong, Cheryl Burke, Sasha Farber, Pasha Pashkov, Gleb Savchenko, Emma Slater and of course reigning champion Alan Bersten. While we have to wait to see what pros they are partnered with, from actors to reality stars and of course athletes, here are all the celebrities competing on season 29:

Vernon Davis

Football players have seen success on the dance floor and for season 29 the former NFL star trying to take his fancy footwork from the grid iron to the hardwood is Vernon Davis. The former tight end has played for the San Francisco 49ers, the Denver Broncos and the Washington Redskins and with a Super Bowl win under his belt he is looking to add a Mirror Ball trophy to his shelf.

Monica Aldama (Cheer)

There were rumors that one of the students from Netflix’s hit documentary Cheer were going to appear on this season, but surprise, it is instead their coach Monica Aldama. There is no denying that dance plays a huge part in cheer as well as rigorous training, intense choreography and a natural ability to move your body to a rhythm. When combining all these things and Aldama saying she definitely knows how to work hard, it looks like she will be a tough competitor this season.

Jeannie Mai

The Real host and TV correspondent Jeannie Mai is ready to take on the challenge of the dance floor! Despite having no dance training, she did say she has busted out some moves at J.Lo’s birthday party and may have even got into a dance off with actress Tiffany Haddish. It will be interesting to see what she brings to Dancing With the Stars this season.

Nelly

45-year-old rapper, singer, and actor Nelly is making a comeback to the spotlight in a big way with a turn on season 29! With several AMA Awards, Billboard Music Awards and even three Grammys under his belt already, he is thinking a Mirror Ball trophy would look good alongside them! Speaking to GMA, he did say he has “two left feet and probably two right ankles” but he may be underestimating his abilities.

Jesse Metcalfe

Actor Jesse Metcalfe has previously said no to Dancing With the Stars, but he thinks season 29 is his chance! The handsome former Desperate Housewives actor and Hallmark Channel star revealed that he was afraid to do the show because he thought no one would take him seriously as an actor, but said that we now live in a world where people can do whatever they want and he is excited for the opportunity. He was also quick to mention he has no formal training, but he might be able to charm his way through a few weeks.

Nev Schulman

Nev Schulman is no stranger to reality TV, but nothing quite like this. Audiences might recognize Nev as the creator and host of MTV’s long-running series Catfish where he tries to bring people together who met on the internet but might not have been truthful about their identity. He might not have dancing experience, but he knows how to work hard and keep a positive attitude which fans know goes a long way on Dancing With the Stars.

Kaitlyn Bristowe

Former Bachelorette is hoping that luck is on her side after Hannah Brown’s big win in season 28, but she might also have a bit of an advantage as well. Bristowe previously wanted to compete on the series but was reportedly blocked by Bachelorette creator Mike Fleiss. Now that she is competing, she has revealed she has had some dance training when she is younger, and it looks like she might be one of the top competitors of the season.

AJ McLean

There is little doubt who most see as the biggest threat this season and that is Backstreet Boys singer AJ McLean. For over 20 years McLean has been pulling off smooth moves and complicated choreography either in music videos or on world tours and that makes him an early frontrunner and the competition hasn’t even started yet! Kaitlyn Bristowe said she thinks AJ is definitely the biggest threat and the Good Morning America hosts seemed to agree even though the singer tried to downplay his dancing talents. Of course, singers from groups have been known to do well on the show so there are a lot of expectations riding on McLean.

Chrishell Stause

Chrishell Stause has already been in the spotlight quite a bit in 2020 thanks to her part in the hit Netflix series Selling Sunset, but also thanks to her very public divorce from This Is Us actor Justin Hartley. Now she is ready to sell herself as a dancer for season 29 and hopefully reclaim some of the attention for herself and away from her personal life. Rumor has it her pro partner is Gleb Savchenko, but we will have to wait until the premiere to find out.

Skai Jackson

At only 18-years-old, this season’s youngest competitor is actress Skai Jackson. Jackson starred on Disney’s Jessie and has only just graduated high school, but she is not to be underestimated! From Tik Tok dances to natural ability it seems Jackson will definitely be one to keep an eye on.

Anne Heche

There is no doubt that Anne Heche is one of the biggest stars Dancing With the Stars has had. She is known for her many roles in both film and TV and many are excited to see what she can bring to the dance floor. Despite excitement about her casting, Heche did say the most dancing she has done is “with a broom”.

Justina Machado

Beloved actress Justina Machado known for roles in Six Feet Under, and currently the reboot of One Day at a Time is excited for her opportunity to compete on season 29. She has already admitted that walking out of her first sessions of rehearsals has been difficult, but she is no stranger to working hard!

Johnny Weir

Two-time figure skater Olympian Johnny Weir is known for his flare for the dramatics and over-the-top outfits on the ice and many are thinking this will transition well on to the dance floor. Figure skaters are well-versed in complicated choreography and the training it takes to succeed so many are already thinking that Johnny Weir is one to look out for this season!

Charles Oakley

When it comes to tough competitors, nobody in the NBA wanted to go up against star Charles “the Oak Tree” Oakley and now he is taking his talents from the hardwood of the basketball court to the hardwood of the dance floor. At 6’8″ and 56 years old, Oakley will have his work cut out for him to keep up with the more nimble contestants, but there is no denying that he will have no problem at least intimidating the other celebs.

Carole Baskin

2020 will be remembered for a lot of things and one of them will be the unprecedented success of Netflix’s Tiger King documentary. None other than Tiger King’s Carole Baskin will be competing on the season and said she wants to compete because she was disappointed in being “villainized” in Tiger King for trying to “stop animal abusers” and wants to show her true self. She also admitted she is competitive and fans of the series know she is relentless when it comes to rivals. The other celebs better keep their eye on Baskin.
