Oscars 2021: Red Carpet Hits And Misses Ranked

While the 2021 Oscars may have looked a little different this year, that didn’t stop the stars of Hollywood from bringing their A-game to the red carpet. We saw glitz, glamour, dramatic shapes, and bright colors. While some stars nailed their look and shone on the red carpet, others seemed to miss the mark. Check out our red carpet roundup for the 2021 Academy Awards:

16. Miss: Celeste Waite

We have to admit that we felt Celeste Waite missed the mark with her look for the 2021 Oscars. The star seemed to go for a queen of hearts-themed look paired with a life-like heart clutch. While we love the creativity, the look felt a little too theatrical for the red carpet.

15. Hit: Vanessa Kirby

Vanessa Kirby dazzled at the 2021 Academy Awards where she stepped out wearing this blush pink satin number. The dress fit her like a glove and the dramatic train really brought the red carpet glamour factor.

14. Miss: Rita Moreno

While we absolutely love this rich shade of maroon on Rita Moreno, we have to admit we didn’t love the jacket she opted to pair with it. For a spring event, this thick velvet texture felt a little too heavy.

13. Hit: Halle Berry

Halle Berry dazzled on the red carpet at the 2021 Oscars wearing this fuchsia iridescent number. We absolutely love the delicate pleating on the bustier of this dress and the ruching along the waist was the perfect dramatic contrast.

12. Miss: Carey Mulligan

While we love the drama with this gold look worn by Carey Mulligan, we can’t say the colour was the most flattering. The orange-toned gold combined with a sequined texture felt a little mismatched.

11. Hit: Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon looked so classy at this year’s 2021 Oscars where she rocked this one-shoulder crimson number. The look made a statement without being too over the top and the bright shade of red looked gorgeous on her!

10. Miss: Erica Rivinoja

Erica Rivinoja looked stunning in this bright shade of pink at the 2021 Oscars, but the pleated accordion detail around the neckline seemed to miss the mark. We felt that this bold detail distracted from the beautiful shape of this dress.

9. Hit: Angela Bassett

Angela Bassett stole the show when she stepped out at the 2021 Oscars wearing this bold cherry red number. Exaggerated shoulders and puff sleeves were a huge trend this year, so we were happy to see this incorporated into Bassett’s red carpet look.

8. Miss: Andra Day

Andra Day opted for a gold cutout number for the 2021 Academy Awards that we have to admit we weren’t the biggest fans of. The look seemed to lack the dramatic Oscars factor we love to see and seemed like a dress that could’ve been worn for any awards show rather than one of the biggest of the year.

7. Hit: Zendaya

Zendaya stunned at the 2021 Oscars where she rocked this canary yellow cutout dress paired with flowing mermaid waves. The colour looked beautiful on her and the sparkling necklace she paired with the look really brought the Oscars glitz factor.

6. Miss: Olivia Colman

We have to admit we didn’t love this look worn by Olivia Colman at the 2021 Oscars. While this shade of red looked gorgeous on her, the sleeves seemed a little long which made the look seem as if it wasn’t properly tailored.

5. Hit: Regina King

Regina King wore a red carpet showstopper to this year’s 2021 Oscars! This beautiful shade of powder blue looked perfect on her and we love the dramatic shoulder detail which felt unique and glamorous at the same time.

4. Miss: Laura Dern

We, unfortunately, felt that Laura Dern had a red carpet miss at this year’s Oscars. While we typically love a black and white monochrome look, the feathered skirt with this particular number felt a little misplaced and eye-catching for the wrong reasons.

3. Hit: Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried had all eyes on her at the 2021 Oscars! The star rocked a glam cherry red number which had the most beautiful pleating and neckline. This is definitely one of our favourite Amanda Seyfried looks of all time!

2. Miss: Viola Davis

Viola Davis rocked a white cutout number at the 2021 Oscars that we felt missed the mark. While we love the gorgeous cutout detailing, this look would have been elevated to the next level with a little sparkle or glitz, even just with some jewellery!

1. Hit: Margot Robbie

Our favourite look of the entire evening at the 2021 Oscars had to be this sparkling Chanel number worn by Margot Robbie. The look had pattern, glitz and a flattering shape, which definitely made it a red carpet showstopper on all accounts.
