Golden Globes 2018: 12 Worst Dressed Stars

Last night’s Golden Globes made history when nearly every star stepped out in solidarity by wearing the color black to speak up about Hollywood’s systemic gender inequality. The uniformity made a fashion statement that will undeniably go down in history and definitely questioned everything we previously expected from Hollywood awards shows and red carpet coverage. Since nearly every dress on the red carpet was black, this made it even easier to spot stand out dresses — whether they be a best-dressed or worst-dressed moment. Follow along as we recall 12 of the worst dressed stars from last night’s 2018 Golden Globes red carpet:

12. Allison Williams

Allison Williams stepped out on last night’s Golden Globe red carpet wearing a sparkling column dress. The bodice of the gown featured a striped orange and silver beaded pattern that seemed awkward and out of place. Although we love the flattering sleek shape of this gown, the endless tassels covering the skirt and strange beading on the bodice were difficult to overlook.

11. Debra Messing

Debra Messing most definitely had a strange outfit formula at the 2018 Golden Globes! Rather than opting for a typical dress like many women do on the red carpet, this actress stepped out wearing a glittering pantsuit. We can typically support a strongly tailored pantsuit on the red carpet and often praise women for doing so, but this particular look by Debra Messing is unfortunately not one of those times! The top of Messing’s outfit draped to the floor yet had a confusing cutout at the front which awkwardly revealed her trousers.

10. Blanca Blanco

There were very few stars who stepped out not wearing black at last night’s Golden Globes and Blanca Blanco was one of them! Her crimson cutout dress undeniably stood out among the sea of black gowns and we’re convinced it’s for more reasons than just the color. This velvet gown featured a slashed cutout across the bodice and thigh-high slit that just came across distasteful and overly revealing.

9. Barbara Meier

Barbara Meier was another star who stepped out on the red carpet not wearing black and she most definitely stood out for all the wrong reasons. The star wore a pink gown completely covered in floral embellishment, confusing feathers and strange layers of organza. This dress was quite the fashion miss, but especially when considering that all the other stars on the red carpet stood in solidarity wearing black and Meier seemingly chose not to participate.

8. Maggie Gyllenhaal

Maggie Gyllenhaal stepped out wearing a similar outfit to Debra Messing, but hers was slightly more redeemable with its straight cut neckline! The outfit consisted of a sparkling top that featured a high-low hemline to reveal a pair of trousers underneath. We’re still slightly confused by this trend, but the strapless neckline definitely added a little more glamour to the style.

7. Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie was covered from head to toe last night and definitely left Golden Globes viewers quite confused with this choice of attire. The look consisted of a sheer neckline and wide bell sleeves which flourished into feathers around the wrist. The unique gown was definitely a huge fashion risk, which we often applaud, but we’re still not entirely convinced this was the most flattering option for the gorgeous brunette beauty!

6. Shailene Woodley

Big Little Lies star Shailene Woodley stepped onto the Golden Globes red carpet in an interesting turtleneck ensemble! The top portion of her dress was silver and glitzy then transitioned into a full black skirt which she belted at the waist. We can typically appreciate the uniqueness of a two-piece ensemble, but this particular look seemed overly covered up! We’re not totally convinced about the glittery turtleneck and wish she had opted for a cropped piece on top to flatter her figure and show off the two-piece look a little more.

5. Connie Britton

Connie Britton is a natural beauty that could seemingly do no wrong on the red carpet, but we were totally confused by her choice of attire at last night’s Golden Globes! The star stepped out wearing a sweater that was embellished with the words “poverty is sexist” which she paired with a full black skirt. Last night was definitely the time to make statements which we applaud Britton for, but the look simply was too casual for the glamorous event!

4. Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson stepped out last night wearing a seriously revealing look last night on the Golden Globes red carpet! Her gown featured a plunging U-shaped neckline and was crafted with a mesh fabric along the bodice and waist. The dress featured a black velvet belt and a completely sheer, wispy skirt. With this look, we wish Kate had opted for either a revealing top or skirt rather than both! Since both the bodice and skirt were sheer, the look just bared a little too much skin at the classy event!

3. Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman has seemingly landed herself on quite a few worst-dressed lists at the past few red carpet events! This star just seems to continually get it wrong and this 2018 Golden Globes look was disappointingly no different. The look featured a high-neckline that was sheer, covered in glitter and featured a ruffled shoulder detail. The proportions of the dress were unflattering on the tall, slender star and the raw, undone neckline of the bodice came across as messy and awkward.

2. Heidi Klum

Typically a red carpet superstar, Heidi Klum definitely left us feeling disappointed at her look from last night’s Golden Globes red carpet! Her dress featured a high-low cut which we typically love, but the texture of this gown was all wrong. There was simply too much going on from the feathers, tulle, glitter, and beading, but especially with the long, ruffled skirt trailing behind her!

1. Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker will forever have high expectations on the red carpet after playing the ultra fabulous Carrie Bradshaw for years on television, which is why this look was all the more disappointing! The star opted for a corset gown with strange meshing along the bodice, sleeves, and skirt. To make matters worse, the gown cut awkwardly at her ankles which simply made her look frumpy. We would have much preferred a gown with a little more fabric to reach the floor and a little less embellishment!
