26. Miss: Sofia Carson

We love to see glitzy sequined dresses on the red carpet, but there’s definitely a way to miss the mark with this style as well. Unfortunately, we weren’t the biggest fans of this metallic look worn by Sofia Carson at the 2019 American Music Awards. The asymmetrical neckline seemed to have an excess of fabric that felt over the top with a dress that was already so sparkly.

25. Hit: Keltie Knight

Keltie Knight looked stunning in this gold minidress at the AMA’s this year. We love the bow detail which added something unique and bold but wasn’t over the top! She kept her accessories and hair simple to allow the dress to shine.

24. Miss: Tyra Banks

Tyra Banks definitely went the daring route when it came to her red carpet look for this year’s American Music Awards. While we actually don’t mind the camel suit and the snakeskin bag, the embellished top hat and leather gloves felt like a little much and seemed to detract from the rest of the look.

23. Hit: Kelsea Ballerini

Blonde beauty Kelsea Ballerini dazzled in this red sequined suit at the AMA’s this year. We love that she opted for a suit over a dress and this glitzy one was the perfect option for something bold and sultry.

22. Miss: Katherine Langford

Katherine Langford missed the mark at this year’s American Music Awards red carpet! While we actually really love this red color on her, we couldn’t get past her experimental makeup and hair which didn’t seem suited for the event or the dress.

21. Hit: Jamie Lee Curtis

Jamie Lee Curtis looked so elegant at this year’s American Music Awards where she opted for a black embellished set. We love the simplicity of this look, but the element of uniqueness with the feathers lining the sleeves really made it feel red carpet-worthy.

20. Miss: Lauren Jauregui

Lauren Jauregui missed the mark at this year’s American Music Awards where she opted for a floor-skimming snakeskin dress. While snakeskin has been a huge trend this season in the fashion world, we’re not sure it’s the most elegant print to incorporate on a ball gown!

19. Hit: Jenna Dewan

Jenna Dewan glowed in pink at the AMA’s this year! This vibrant color was a great contrast against her dark features and the sleek shape of the dress showed off her budding baby bump perfectly.

18. Miss: Ciara

Ciara missed the mark at this year’s American Music Awards where she opted for an indigo blazer ensemble. This color is gorgeous on Ciara, but the blazer was a little too oversized to be flattering, especially paired with the strange embellished top below it! The look simply felt a little mismatched rather than a cohesive suit moment.

17. Hit: Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa stunned at the AMAs this year where she opted for this sleek fuschia gown in a luxe satin texture. Typically we wouldn’t love the black bow detail on this look; however, since American Music Awards are a little more experimental when it comes to fashion, this detail adds something unique and interesting.

16. Miss: Billie Eilish

At this point, we’ve come to understand that Billie Eilish certainly has a unique point of view when it comes to fashion. She loves all things designer and oversized pieces, which is exactly what she wore to the AMAs. While we can accept that this is her personal style, we’re not sure we can get on board with the mesh headpiece she wore covering her face! On such an exciting night, we definitely wish we could have seen her face while she walked the red carpet.

15. Hit: Shawn Mendes

Shawn Mendes looked so handsome at the American Music Awards this year! We love that rather than a typical black tuxedo, he opted for something a little different with this purple and teal combination.

14. Miss: Paula Abdul

Paula Abdul had an unfortunate fashion miss at this year’s AMAs where she opted for a long sleeve embellished number with a slit. While the dress itself isn’t too bad, we simply can’t get behind the strange embroidery along the bodice!

13. Hit: Jameela Jamil

Jameela Jamil dazzled at the American Music Awards this year where she opted for a sleek glitzy dress that fit her like a glove. We love the subtle print on the bodice of this dress which really made the look feel unique and interesting.

12. Miss: Regina King

Regina King is typically a red carpet all-star, which is why we were so disappointed with her fashion miss at the 2019 American Music Awards. While the dress itself isn’t too bad with the sparkling black texture and keyhole cutout, we couldn’t get past her sharply styled bangs which made the whole look feel almost costume-like.

11. Hit: Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum looked amazing at the AMAs this year where she opted for a feathered minidress with a sequined bust. While this look likely wouldn’t be that appropriate for some of the more elegant award shows, we felt it was perfect for the AMAs! It was fun, trendy and flattering.

10. Miss: Constance Wu

Crazy Rich Asians star Constance Wu had a rare fashion misstep at this year’s American Music Awards. Typically she is one of the most elegant stars at an awards show, but we felt the peplum cut and criss-cross detailing of this dress weren’t the most flattering.

9. Hit: Camila Cabello

Camila Cabello looked like a princess at the 2019 American Music Awards where she wore this romantic tulle dress! We love the floral embroidery on this number and the long braid hairstyle was the perfect complement to the frothy ensemble.

8. Miss: Shania Twain

Shania Twain certainly stole the show with her final performance at the AMAs this year, but we can’t say we loved her red carpet look when she first stepped out at the awards show! This look had a lot going on from the satin top to the oversized sleeves to the tulle train to the sequin skirt.

7. Hit: Lizzo

Lizzo dazzled at this year’s AMAs where she opted for this stunning tangerine ruffled dress. She styled the number with a mod ’60s-inspired ponytail and the most adorable white mini bag that definitely stole the show.

6. Miss: Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera definitely went the experimental route with her look for the AMAs this year, but we can’t say we were the biggest fans! The white beaded dress had quite a lot going on at once from the oversized shoulders to the bold belt to the strange hood.

5. Hit: Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez looked gorgeous at this year’s American Music Awards where she stepped out wearing this lime green dress paired with matching heels! We love the ruffle detail on this dress and how simple yet glam it feels.

4. Miss: Kesha

Kesha had an unfortunate fashion miss at this year’s American Music Awards where she opted for a printed Versace number that featured a wrap waist and matching sock boots. This look felt quite over the top and heavy in our opinion!

3. Hit: Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood was undeniably one of the best-dressed women of the night at the 2019 American Music Awards! This deep purple color was stunning on her and we absolutely love the asymmetrical cape detail which made the look feel super glam.

2. Miss: Halsey

Halsey stepped out at the American Music Awards this year wearing a ruffled multi-color number that we, unfortunately, didn’t love! It had a lot happening at once with the rainbow of colors and heavy texture, and even more so paired with her theatrical makeup and hair.

1. Hit: Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift owned the American Music Awards this year where she was honored with the Artist of the Decade award and was also named the artist given the most awards in AMA history. We absolutely love the outfit she wore for the exciting occasion. This green sparkling number was the perfect combination of class and glam with the high-low hemline and thigh-high black boots.
